Music at the Court of Henry VIII:
with Special Guest Dr. Kerry McCarthy

Sunday, April 19, 2026 1-4pm

The ornately decorated music book now known as “Henry VIII’s manuscript,” contains over 100 works (with 33 compositions by the King himself) and was copied at the English court between 1510 and 1513, just four years after Henry's first marriage to Catherine of Aragon. The manuscript contains instrument works and vocal music in five languages. After a day exploring this collection, you'll have a clear picture of what the musical landscape at young Henry's court would have sounded like. We are thrilled to have Dr. Kerry McCarthy as a guest lecturer and performer at this workshop. Kerry’s forthcoming book tells the story of musicians who worked for Henry VIII and the difficulties they faced in the tumultuous English Reformation.
